Its a textbook thats easy to read and easy to follow. You want to understand others, you open up your mind, the begginers mind, and see others not inferior or better, but rather they do things differently and have a different view of life. I been in other countries and mingled with the people and try my best to understand their views of the world. I've made some very life changing discoveries that have changed me, for the better. This book is read from the typical American views of what life should be like for everybody else and by reading it it is very obvious the writers have never really lived outside of their confort zone or experiance culture shock, or even sorround themselves with other people. I give this book 3 stars because of how bias it is from the start. Im in chapter 6 and I still feel like this is just baby stuff to acknowledge that there are other societies out there besides ours. Thats it. No clear understanding of other cultural norms. I also deduct points for putting Jersey Shore's picture in chapter one. Giving these people any importance is a no no! But it is a freshmen class textbook, so I can see they were trying to hard to please some kids.

The writing style of the book is casual and friendly. The authors seemed to go out of their way to create a text that was accessible. Throughout the book they speak directly to the reader, have sections on "how to use psychology to learn psychology" and make a point to provide a variety of ways (via mypsychlab) to deliver information. Because they're psychologists, they know that people have different learning styles and they try to help you.The access code is well worth it. My experience in getting to the mypsychlab was fraught with difficulty and incompetence.- Access to the audio book of the textbook. This was a huge win for me. It is streaming audio only, which is sad. I would love to be able to listen to it in the car during my commute or while exercising.- Flash card game. You can select the chapters, you can choose a quiz option, and you can print out the flash cards.YOU CAN PRINT THEM OUT! They even make the game accessible to your smartphone. It's not an app though. It should be an app.- Study guides. For people who have trouble knowing how to take notes from the book or from lecture, the study guides address this with directed note taking outlines. There are glossary lists for you to look up definitions, chapter quizzes to help you prepare.- Links to the podcast, which anyone can get to - the psych files.- access to eText. This is downloadable. Some complaints:- The pages of the text are thin.- The customer service at Pearson was very hit or miss. The third person I reached was able to give me the correct answer, that I needed my professor to provide a course id to me.- You can't download the audio book.- The flash card game should be an app.

If you have to buy it anyway I recommend getting it at $55 or so as I did used if possible. The material wasn't covered in an enjoyable and understandable way in my opinion. I took sociology because I loved psychology and wanted to branch out to a related field. Sociology is not enjoyable, and the book does not help the topic become more approachable. Literally the only C I've made from K-graduating college. And half of the material our teacher covered was nowhere to be found in the book that was required to purchase.

Book was delivered in no time, and in PERFECT condition! This is exactly what I needed, plus it comes with the access code for classwork/and ebook. Such a great rental!

Book is a pretty comprehensive overview of Sociology. I enjoyed it a great deal. I had not really studied the subject prior to purchasing the book. The author used a lot of real world examples to fully explain the concepts within the chapters. They also used a lot of visual aids, which helped a lot. I am glad I chose this book, because I felt it really helped me to understand the information. Overall, I thought it was well written and would make it easy for anyone to learn the subject

This book definitely met my expectations! Not only was it in nice shape and not highlighted already, but it came at a fraction of what my college was charging for it. Perfect buying experience for an easy to read, quality textbook.

This is how I received the book, just because i dont have time to return it or else I would.. The back cover cut in half, i know its a rental it is just bad quality of the book.

Excellent learning. Would definitely suggest this publisher for needed material. I had a only a couple days to get this book for class. This was shipped out there was no delays. Thank you
