There are very few You tubers that my son is allowed to watch. James Rallison's channel is one of them. I find myself also listening to his funny stories as well as wondering if I have been pronouncing SUBWAY incorrectly all these years. I loved that my son was excited to read this book. I didn't love how quickly he finished it. He couldn't put it down and he hates to read. This is how I know when a book is good. I hope to see more of odd 1's out books in the future.
My daughter and I were so excited to get this book today! She has not put it down. We are fans of The Odd 1s Out youtube channel. This book does not dissapoint.
I bought the digital version of the book. The light-hearted retelling of the different events combined with fun illustrations depicting or reacting to the events earned serveral laughs. I've experienced a situation slightly similar to the one in Chapter 5 -_-. I also related with the events in Chapter 8. The drawing at the start of Chapter 9 stuck with me, because that's how my friends and I interact when we play competitive games together. Overall, this was an enjoyable read.
This was a fun little endearing read! Most of the stories are already up on James's YouTube channel, TheOdd1stOut, as videos to be watched, but there are a few anecdotes that aren't on his channel, and a little more substance to the ones that are and made it into this book.Most of this book feels like a memoir of things James has learned or experienced since as early as kindergarten onward, and I feel like it reads as such even when it's funny.I recommend this to fans of his channel, especially if they're younger fans, as I imagine they can take some nuggets of wisdom from his experience. (And for those who may not have seen his channel before, but stumbled upon this book, you should go watch some of his videos! They're fun, and typically get me to laugh when I need it.)
Jame Rallison has been wildly successful running a YouTube channel with the same name as this book that explores his offbeat, eclectic views on the world.If you like the YouTube channel then you are going to absolutely love this book.This is a written book (chapter book really) written in a Middle Grade style that has a good number of colored illustrations. So this is not a graphic novel or comic book, which is what you might be expecting given that James is a cartoonist/animator.If you are new to James' sketches and humor, you have to be in the right frame of mind to enjoy them. I kind of view James as a millennial Gary Larson.This book talks about his growing up, and James does not spare us views into Skittles' vomit being multicolored to "not looking" when naked classmates are prancing by in gym class to pet moths being eaten by birds in front of a class of five year olds.James says things like "back then I believed parents knew best" and "back then I thought teachers knew best." So, you are getting a 20-30 something view of the world.I did not find any grossly objectionable material for anyone 10+. Some of the jokes about dying pets, vomit, ... might be a little on the mature side for the youngest of readers. (On the other hand, they probably won't want to read a chapter book either.)All in all, this was always fun, often funny, and ever insightful view of James' world.
This book is hilarious. Great for tweens to adults. Very relatable. I dare you to not have experienced something in the book. Great for helping kids adjust to middle school. Highly recommend.
This book is so great! It's funny and it makes me smile when reading it. :)
A lot of goodies from TheOdd1sOut YouTube channel; the stories are pretty word for word to his animations with a few extra goodies put in there plus some new fun stories to read. My five year old asked for me to read it at night time (And any excuse NOT to read goodnight moon is a good night) because she loved the artwork, so far her favorite is definitely Harry the moth.
